University Stays – Sleep smarter in Sydney on New Year’s Eve
Rooms in Sydney are selling fast but there are still good options available even for the budget traveller.
Sydney hotels and hostels are never busier than on New Year’s Eve. A quick look at hotel booking websites reveals most city hotel rooms are already booked or cost a small fortune. Hostels have limited beds available on the night of 31 December but often require a fourteen night minimum stay.
An interesting alternative is a stay in a student room at a University College close to the city centre and viewing spots for the fireworks. The colleges are often located in beautiful historic sandstone buildings on the University campus. They come with dining hall, library, common rooms and tranquil gardens for the guest to enjoy. Sydneys Hotels und Gästehäuser sind besonders über Silvester sehr gefragt. Ein kurzer Blick ins Internet zeigt aber, dass die meisten der zentral gelegenen Hotels, Gästehäuser und Backpacker über Silvester entweder bereits ausgebucht oder sehr teuer sind. Oft gilt eine Mindestbuchungsdauer von 14 Tagen.

Sydney University College opens doors for Bed & Breakfast
Want the Harry Potter experience without the study? New accommodation website is listing College rooms during the student holidays.
The University Colleges around Australia have spare rooms from November to February as well as during the June July break when the students are on holidays. These rooms have previously only been available to conference groups and a few people in the know.
A new website www.universitystays.com.au is now listing College rooms which are available for bed and breakfast at a reasonable price. One of the first Colleges to list their rooms is located on campus at the University of Sydney.
Many of the Colleges were built a century ago and have heritage listing. The dining rooms often have sandstone or timber panelled walls and traditional bedrooms have beautiful leadlight windows. Bathrooms have been renovated to a high standard.
